About Mayfair
I fell in love with ribbon weaving over 30 years ago when I took a weaving class at a local fabric store. I quickly refined the way I was taught to weave and have been weaving with polyester satin ribbon ever since.
I love putting colors and different widths together in various combinations of weaving patterns. Back then, vests were popular and I wove large pieces of weaving to make several vests, then went from making clothing, to bags and totes, to cards and pillows, and matted some weaving and framed others.
I have participated in craft shows from Maine to Connecticut for many years, and have sold items in museum stores and gift shops. I have also taught ribbon weaving to groups and individuals.
One of the best things about this style of weaving is that before I remove the weaving from the board, if I do not like what I have created I can change colors or widths and reuse the ribbon in other pieces.
I have always worked in textile field one way or another most of my adult life. I started with retail clothing sales, then wholesale clothing, and then importing and exporting of clothing. Later I worked for a local manufacturing company that used vertical looms to knit their own fabric for their products.
I also worked for commission dyers that would dye greige goods for manufacturers. It was while working for them that I learned to weave. The combination of weaving at home, and walking through the plant and seeing 200 to 500 yards rolls of different colors of fabric being dyed, dried and inspected was like an easter egg hunt every day, with wonderful colors everywhere.
